Murphy's Bleachers is primarily known as a historic sports bar located directly across the street from the entrance to the bleacher section of Wrigley Field, but what you may not know is that they also offer rooftop seating, known to their loyal customers as Murphy's Rooftop! On this page we'll tell you about all of the features of this establishment, not just limited to their rooftop information, but with a heavy focus on that since that's what you're here for. This is truly one of the most full-service rooftop locations that we have ever been to, with so many party options that it's overwhelming in a good way. Everybody knows that this is the spot to hang out before and after the games (and during them if you are partying on the rooftop of course!), and you just can't find a more famous spot than this. If you ask anybody what the best sports bar in America is, you can bet that the answer will be Murphy's Bleachers.
What really makes Murphy's Bleachers and Murphy's Rooftop such legendary spots is of course the man himself, the late Jim Murphy. He passed away in January 2003, but Jim Murphy will always be a part of Wrigleyville in spirit, and the people of this city will certainly never forget him. This entrepreneur purchased Ray's Bleachers in 1980 and changed the name to Murphy's Bleachers, and the rest is history. It became a place for the Cubs themselves to relax and hang out, for the journalists and EMTs to chill out when they weren't working, and also a hub for community events. Jim Murphy became recognized as a leader in our community, and he was eventually elected to president of the East Lake View Neighbors community organization, as well as being the president of the Wrigleyville Rooftop Association. We could write a book on Jim's contributions to Wrigleyville and the surrounding community, but the best way to pay tribute to this man is to simply tell you about Murphy's Bleachers. So that's exactly what we'll do.
Let's go ahead and launch right into the information about the rooftop, and then we can tell you a bit more about the bar below. We love watching the game from Murphy's Bleachers rooftop on Sheffield, because there's no better view than that, and the feeling of the establishment is just so comfortable. The service is so outstanding we'd almost want to call it old fashioned. It's so rare to find employees that care this much about their customers! Not only do you get the best possible view of the game, but you also get wonderful food and drinks, and the ability for as many as 50 of your friends and family to join you on the roof. You can actually have a party of up to 75, but they charge you extra for each guest over 50. Even kids are welcome as long as they are over the age of eight, so you can make it a family affair!
The price that you pay for your ticket includes your food and drinks (gratuity not included and 20% is suggested), and your options include delicious Chicago hot dogs, wonderful Polish sausages, tasty chicken sandwiches, juicy bratwurst, and perfectly cooked hamburgers. They also have chips and brownies for dessert, and for your drink choices you can have Bud, Bud Light, Old Style, Labatt Blue, wine, Pepsi, and Diet Pepsi. Please note that Chicago law does not allow them to serve hard liquor on the rooftop, but you can extend the selection of beer and wine to include imported beers, craft beers, and premium wines, for just $300.
We love the fact that this company does not require payment in full up front, but that they instead simply require a deposit of $1500 in order to confirm your reservation. It is refundable only if the game is canceled. You can call and reserve your date and they will hold it for a week for you without that deposit, but by that point you need to make the payment. We also like the fact that they accept so many different payment methods, including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, cash, or check. If paying by check be sure to write down the date of the event, the designated host's name, and the company, on the check, and make it payable to Murphy's Roof Top Company.
The bar itself is great for parties too, including wristband parties and bachelor parties! The wristband parties are the cheapest way to throw a group get together without paying the price of a private party! The wristbands keep your group separately designated but still allows you to mingle with everybody else in the bar. If you book a private party such as a bachelor party, you will get a private room for a nice low cost with 18% gratuity already included so you don't have to worry about that. They even allow you to book your own entertainment if you like! This company really pulls out all the stops to make your private party a success, with their well trained staff always on call to mix the perfect drinks and tend to your needs. We think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the wonderful old fashioned service that you receive here. The kind that Jim Murphy himself established back in the day.
